IVAR FROUNBERG composer/works Drei-Klang (1982)
Drei-Klang was written for Vestjydsk Kammerensemble's workshop in contemporary music 1982, on
which occasion the piece was premiered. This work comprises not only a 'triad'
of three inspirational source -the tonal material is controlled by three
'aggregates' (i.e. a kind of chord), three wind instruments and three string
instruments make up the instrumentation -but the form consists of three sections
equal in length as well.
The first two sections are identical in spite of the
fact that no two notes are the same: high is interchanged with low, winds with
strings, longer progressions with shorter, and so on. Drei-Klang
is extremely tightly structured despite the fact that it was written at the
piano.
